YWCA Aotearoa

Supporting a diverse group of 25 high potential young women from across New Zealand to transition into adulthood.

A 140 year old secular organisation with a long history of supporting young women.

Today, through its innovative and holistic Y25 program, YWCA Aotearoa is supporting a diverse group of 25 high potential young women from across New Zealand to transition into adulthood. YWCA also has a proven track record in achieving policy change, including around gendered pay and the provision of menstrual products, and a respected framework for supporting organisations to embed gender into their strategies and operations.

Fast Facts

  • Finding their tribe. The programme brings together 25 like minded young women and non-binary people who are full of ideas and energy who can support each other to change their world
  • Transitioning to adulthood. The Y25ers range in age from 15 to 25 as this builds tuakana-teina (older-younger) relationships, allowing them to learn from each other
  • Being seen and heard. Being on the Y25 opens up opportunities to shine a light on different lived experiences – in media, on panels and as spokespeople
  • Creating role models. Y25 attracts young women and non-binary people from a diverse range of communities, experiences, abilities, orientation and backgrounds
  • Sustaining passion. The programme offers workshops and facilitated sessions where the Y25 can learn from each other and experts about how to look after themselves, physically, spiritually and mentally
