Our packaging
Most of our in store and online packaging is 100 percent kerbside recyclable. This includes the small bags used for the vast majority of store purchases – even the handles which might feel like fabric but are actually made from paper and can go straight into your recycling bin.
Our large, jumbo, XL and XXL in store bags currently include a laminate coating for strength and durability. This means they’re not yet recyclable in New Zealand but makes them ideal for reuse, and we encourage you to reuse them as many times as possible.
And when you're shopping with us online, you can also choose our sustainable packaging option. This is 100 percent kerbside recyclable, made from 67 percent recycled materials and contains no bubble wrap, plastic bags, polystyrene foam or unnecessary fillers.

Bring your beauty empties into any MECCA store and place them in the Beauty Empties Bin – it’s that easy. We collect the packaging and send it to our specialist sorting partners across Australia and New Zealand.

Beauty empties are made from many different materials, so they need to be carefully sorted by material type before they can be sent for recycling.
Recycling
We work with specialist recycling partners to process, recover and recycle the materials collected through Beauty Empties. Plastics are sorted by type before being shredded, washed and melted so they can be used to make new plastic products. Cardboard is pulped, cleaned and made into new cardboard and paper products. Metals are sorted, shredded, melted and reformed into new products or packaging. Glass is crushed, melted and remolded into new glass products, or used in construction and road base materials.
