It’s New. In January. At MECCA

Words by Izzy Wight

Fresh starts! Meaningful resolutions! A 2026 diary that will remain largely untouched until July (just me?)!

In many ways, January is a time of reinvention – a chance to reboot our minds, recalibrate our goals and adopt a new beauty attitude. With MECCA's influx of nostalgic new arrivals, I’m imagining a month spent as my teenage self would’ve intended: biking round cul-de-sacs, bouncing between beach parties and taking photos with my friends in elaborate gymnastic poses (see: this). Ahead, the products making me feel young, wild and free.

Kiss and Makeup

Remember the days of waxy lip balms flavoured like cotton candy, gummy lollies and your favourite soft drink? This new era of lip treatments has a similar, almost-edible energy, but with all the hydration and gloss you were missing before. Gisou’s Honey Glaze Collagen Lip Mask is a rich, nourishing mask that smells exactly like honey joys, while the limited-edition Frank Body x MECCA collab serves a melon-mint balm you’ll find yourself reapplying nonstop.

For those craving colour, NARS’ high-shine Afterglow Lip Balm has had a New-Year makeover. It’s the same sheer, your-lips-but-better finish, but with added 24-hour hydration and a selection of flattering new shades (including the famous ‘Orgasm’, a peachy-pink with gold shimmer). And, if it’s effortless you’re after, MECCA MAX has upgraded their range of Off Duty Contour and Blush Sticks. They’re the kind of buttery, swipe-on-and-go formulas that can have you flushed, sculpted and dewy in two minutes flat – and now, they’re available in a whole new range of everyday-wearable shades.

In keeping with the theme of ‘00s nostalgia, I've recently been obsessed with the technicolour, dolphin meme-themed world of Zara Larsson. To recreate her flawless base, I’ll be using bareMinerals Original Pressed Powder Foundation – a smoothing, hydrating, skin-perfecting version of the compact foundation you used to love. And for the main event? VIOLETTE_FR’s ultra-fine, longwearing Lune Liners are your shortcut to a high-impact glitter eye, without the disco-ball fallout.

Back to Skincare Basics

After subjecting your skin to all the spoils of the silly season, now is the time to simplify. Instead of a meticulous, multi-step saga (sorry, Hudson Williams), stick to a few, carefully chosen products that deliver on bouncy, radiant, youthful-looking skin. To melt away makeup, grime and excess oil, Origins’ Youthtopia Apple Cleansing Balm serves a hydrating, fruity cleanse that feels like an end-of-day reset. And while mushroom and apple don’t usually pair well on a plate, they’re a dream team when you follow with Youth To The People’s Supershroom Adaptogen Cleanser – a gentle blend of ashwagandha and fermented reishi that leaves skin calm, smooth and baby-soft.

Like its lightweight sister, The Longevity Serum, Tatcha’s The Longevity Memory Cream a) has a name that sounds like the stuff of mythical legend and b) is infused with a trio of powerful Japanese botanicals for skin that looks lit-from-within luminous. If you’re a fan of the brand’s The Dewy Skin or The Water Cream, this new addition sits somewhere between the two – nourishing, but light enough to use in the summer months.

And, drumroll please... the celebrity-lauded, celestial skincare brand Starface has arrived! Spotted on the faces of SZA, Justin Bieber, Florence Pugh and Anne Hathaway, Starface is the one that made pimple patches a status symbol. Not only are they adorable (see Ashley Williams’ SS26 show for proof), but the brand’s signature Hydro-Star Patches are incredibly effective – the hydrocolloid formula works to absorb fluid, shrink spots and protect against future picking.

All-Over Glow

If you, like me, let your body care routine slide during the cooler months, Sol de Janeiro is here to save the day. Launching with a fresh new scent and display-worthy pearlescent-pink packaging, the Rosa Charmosa Dewy Body Cream might just be my favourite Sol drop yet.

As a diehard Delícia Drench fan, I never imagined anything could dethrone my beloved purple body butter. But Rosa Charmosa’s fruity-floral scent and ultra-lightweight, crystal peptide-infused formula leaves me looking so luminous, I’m officially converted.

Scents of Summer

Speaking of Rosa Charmosa, Sol de Janeiro has released its matching fragrance in the form of a new mist: Cheirosa 91. An addictive, sophisticated gourmand, it smells like a refined version of the body sprays I spritzed too liberally in high school. But unlike the saccharine scents of the 2000s, Cheirosa 91 is sweet without being cloying; a juicy, fruity number with notes of rose, passionfruit, honey caramel and pink pepper.

And for the fig addicts out there, DIPTYQUE has transformed its cult-loved Philosykos scent into an effortless, endlessly spritzable Hair Mist. Green, woody and crisp, it smells like the whole fig tree – fruits, stems, leaves and all – making for the kind of fresh, sun-drenched scent you'll want trailing around you all summer long.
