Ghosted Your Body Care All Winter? Use These Products for Instant Results

How many face products do you have in your medicine cabinet?

I’d estimate there are at least 25 in my personal collection. That’s just the ones I’ve opened! For anything below my neck, it’s significantly lower. In summer this expands a little, but right now, as the temperature in Melbourne oscillates between 2C and 25C – sometimes in the one day – I truly have no will to stand starkers and shivering in my bathroom in order to transform my scales into something at least slightly smoother.

But, if the seasons are to be believed, we are on the cusp of legs-out season, or at the very least close enough to panic prep. Here’s how to help you come back almost instantly if you’ve neglected your body care routine. 

[Editor’s note: I know a seven-step body care routine may sound excessive to some, but this is for an all-systems-go, haven’t-moisturised-since-March scenario that requires visible results, stat. If the situation is less dire, pick and choose your steps as desired.]

 

Step 1: De-Scale

And by this I mean dry body brush! According to MECCA’s resident body care expert Cat, who is the owner of the softest elbows in existence, “It’s one of those annoying things that models said they did in interviews in glossy women’s magazines in the ’00s”– but, she promises, "it's a game changer.” For best results, you’ll need a natural bristle body brush, like kit:’s All Dry Body Brush, and you’ll use this every day before you shower. Start at your ankles and wrists, then brush upwards in a sweeping motion with a little pressure. You’ll be amazed at how smooth your skin is after just one use – keep it up for the best results.

Step 2: Scrub

You’ve made it to the shower, and this is where you’ll want to add another round of physical exfoliation to help shed the skin you’ve already brushed loose. The Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub makes the job almost effortless. It has added macadamia oil for moisture and will also leave your skin perfumed like vanilla and freshly squeezed citrus. Step 3: Hydrating Body Wash

Now is the time to upgrade your body wash. A hydrating formula, like Nécessaire’s The Body Wash Santal or Youth To The People’s Superfood + Niacinamide Body Cleanser, does a lot more than cleanse – they also help replenish the moisture your skin has been missing, support its barrier function and make everything else you’ll be applying post-shower work even better.

Step 4: Body Serum

You’re showered and fresh, but don’t dry off just yet! Serums love damp skin – your pores are open and the extra hydration helps active ingredients soak in faster. Uni’s 24-Hour Body Serum has Australian lime caviar to exfoliate dead skin cells, vitamin C-rich Australian Kakadu plum to improve elasticity over time and organic aloe vera which is known to be one of the best natural hydrators there is. Step 5: Moisturiser

Cat’s biggest body care secret might be this: double moisturising. “You know how for your face you layer serum and moisturiser, or moisturiser and oil? Why not your body?” she says. Step 6: Body Oil

Step 7: Feet

Step 8: SPF
