Words by Kaylah Joelle Baker

Runways. Editorial campaigns. Red carpets. This has been Fara Homidi’s world since she moved to New York City in the noughties, and now we get to hold it in our own hands with her highly coveted brand hitting MECCA’s shelves.

It was ten years ago when Fara Homidi started dreaming about her own brand. She was well into her career as a renowned makeup artist, creating lived-in, effortless looks that never felt overly glam or overly minimal. “I was very focused on the idea of artistry-infused, design-driven, sustainable and complexion-considerate products. I told my brand concept to my husband in 2018, and he said he felt it was a genius idea, and to go for it immediately,” she tells the Memo of the origins of Fara Homidi Beauty. Highly attuned to the specific products missing in her artistry toolkit, first up were lips. “The very first products I ever used as an adolescent were lip products and very light-handed complexion products,” she says. “I think if your lip combo is on lock and your skin looks fresh, then anything else is possible!” Enter: her dual priming and balm-like Essential Lip Compact with a buildable cream-to-powder finish and matte feel. It didn’t exist, and it needed to.

“I obsess over these details, so you don’t have to!” Fara says about her approach to bringing her dreams into daylight. “I’m always thinking about solving problems like, how do you make lip pencils that are veil-like yet buildable and don’t feather into fine lines and soft matte complexion products that at the same time have bounce and glide with good coverage, yet look undetectable.”

“I honestly don’t know where my artistry begins and where my brand ends, both are so intertwined,” she adds, noting how everything from the chic packaging to the iconic pops of blue eye shades and wide complexion range has been inspired by or integrated into her editorial and runway looks. The proof? ERDEM’s Spring/Summer 2026 London Fashion Week show where Fara (as lead makeup artist) used her own products to create soft, delicate looks to tap into the collection’s mystical romanticism. The standout products being the soft matte, blurring Essential Face Compact, the self-setting, lustrous Essential Bronzer Compact, the Essential Lip Compact and the viral Smudge & Contour Lip Pencil, known for its velvety, suede-like finish. Oh, and the brushes? They were Fara Homidi Beauty, too.

Because if there’s one thing you can be certain of, it’s this: Fara is not releasing anything unless she’s certain it performs, and she’s certain that it’s thoughtfully made. “I have actually pushed the release of products due to wanting to continue development and striving for a more elevated formula,” she admits. It’s the fewer, better products approach of slow beauty – and it’s ingrained in the brand’s ethos. Fara Homidi Beauty’s products are cruelty-free and vegan, natural ingredients are favoured (with a long free-from list), formulas are strictly researched, and waste is reduced through refills. Yes, your future favourite Essential Compacts for Face, Eye, Lip and Bronzer are all refillable.

Alongside her savvy production checklist, Fara Homidi’s years of working on editorials (see: Serena Williams for the November 2020 British Vogue cover or Bella Hadid for Vogue Italia April 2024) have shaped her perspective on beauty. To find joy in the everyday, her mission is not only complexion-considerate products, but products that are so easy to use that the wearer can decide exactly how they want to express themselves.

“My products allow you to choose how you want to apply them,” Fara explains. “I don’t want any product to feel too precious, like you want to only leave it on your vanity. I want to see them being useful and out in the wild. They are really meant for those who want beautiful essentials that elevate any look you are going for, in packaging that you can feel good about.”

As for her number one product recommendation: “I always say our Smudge & Contour Lip Pencils are the gateway to my entire collection. Once you feel the quality and nuance of my lip pencils, you know you will have to try the rest of the products in my line up!” Just ask Gwyneth Paltrow: she was seen sporting the shade Faun at this year’s Oscars

Fara Homidi Beauty will arrive online and in-store at MECCA Bourke Street and George Street from March 27, with remaining select stores and New Zealand (online) on March 31.
