Best Serums For Mature Skin Hero 16x9

Ageing is only natural, but as we do it, we tend to leave some things in the past.

Just as with any phase of life, there are certain skin implications that come part and parcel with growing older.

While you may have swapped the hormonal breakouts for crepiness (or maybe not!), it makes sense to adjust your skincare routine accordingly. Hopefully you’ve already replaced wearing your makeup to bed for wearing SPF every day.

As we age, our collagen stores naturally deplete and as a result, skin can develop fine lines and wrinkles as it loses elasticity. Here’s where the collagen-rich, retinol-enhanced and resurfacing products come to shine! Mature skin also tends to become drier, so hydrating products are key, and you’ll find plenty of those in this lineup.

Since serums and oils allow us to really target specific skin issues with a potent and tailored approach, let’s take a look at the very best topical additions for mature skin. Your skincare routine is about to be very grown up indeed.

Targets: Loss of firmness and volume, skin barrier support, dryness, fine lines

Key ingredients: Four weights of hyaluronic acid; peptide-and-niacinamide volumising complex

Use it with: DermInfusions™ Plump+Repair Lip Treatment

Dr Gross’ groundbreaking serum turns back the clock on skin by allowing super hydrating, plumping actives to work even faster (and more efficiently). You’ll notice the biggest difference in the appearance of fine lines and dry patches (it minimises both!), and skin will also appear firmer-looking. Pair it with its matching lip treatment for an instant plumping, smoothing and colour-restoring effect.

Targets: Skin barrier support, dryness, texture, loss of firmness

Key ingredients: Centella asiatica complex; celery and flaxseed extracts; niacinamide; prebiotics

Use it with: Booster 27

From French pharmacologist Michèle Evrard, Cosmetics 27 Baume 27 Sérum is specifically developed for mature skin, with powerful antioxidants to prevent premature signs of skin ageing, the blurring powers of celery and flaxseed extracts to refine the skin’s texture and reduce the look of pores, and niacinamide to help support the skin barrier. For extra radiance and to reduce the look of fine lines and pores even more, mix this lightweight fluid with Booster 27, morning and night.

Targets: Discolouration, texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and deeper wrinkles, dryness

Key ingredients: Marine extracts; plant-derived retinol alternatives

Use it with: Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

If discolouration and dullness are your key concerns, this radiance-renewing serum is the one! It’s both a gentle exfoliant and vitamin C treatment, helping to make skin look more even, smooth and bright with every use. Plus, the texture is deliciously light and non-greasy. Apply morning and evening and follow with ELEMIS’ Pro-Collagen Marine Cream for extra hydration and to target the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Targets: Fine lines and deeper wrinkles, crow’s feet, loss of volume, dryness

Key ingredients: Neuropeptide complex; gold-encapsulated hyaluronic acid

Use it with: Skin Reset Eye Crème; Supernatural Face Crème Riche; Supernatural Face Oil

Searching for an alternative to retinol? This world-first serum from Emma Lewisham won over our Senior Beauty Writer after just a few days of use (and made her reconsider injectables). Its revolutionary hyaluronic acid and neuropeptide complex promise to both reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and help prevent them forming, making skin look fresher and plumper. Founder Emma Lewisham uses it as part of her ‘ultimate firming routine’, following it with the Skin Reset Eye Crème, Supernatural Face Crème Riche and Supernatural Face Oil.

Targets: Crow’s feet, dark circles, puffiness

Key ingredients: Age-defying plant extracts, including red algae, calanthe and purslane

Use it with: Super Anti-Aging Eye Cream

The delicate skin around our eyes is particularly prone to showing signs of ageing (hello, crow’s feet!), as well as dehydration, stress and lack of sleep (dark circles, puffiness). Enter: Dr. Barbara Sturm’s eye serum, designed specifically to brighten and hydrate this part of the face for a refreshed look. Like all Dr Sturm’s formulas, it’s based on nourishing, ultra-gentle plant extracts, to suit even the most sensitive of eyes. If you love the rest of her Super Anti Aging collection – and you’re in good company, as her list of celebrity fans could fill a Memo article on its own! – this is the perfect addition to your routine.

Targets: Texture, fine lines, signs of premature skin-ageing

Key ingredients: Four advanced peptide complexes; hyaluronic acid; vitamin E

Use it with: Bestsellers Duo

Developed by UK plastic surgeon Dr Gregory Bays Brown, RéVive is all about scientifically advanced formulas that are worth the investment – and their Anti-Aging Serum is no exception. Imbued with no less than four advanced peptide complexes (Line Relaxing Complex, Cellular Filling Complex, Bio-Renewal Peptide and Bio-Volumizing Peptide), it’s an all-in-one solution to signs of skin ageing: it helps both soften the look of lines and wrinkles while simultaneously smoothing and plumping the skin, improving the look of firmness and revealing a brighter and more radiant complexion. Complete your age-defying routine with the Fermitif Neck Renewal Cream and Moisturizing Renewal Cream Nightly Retexturizer – you’ll find both in the Bestsellers Duo.
