Biotech Gave Me the Skin I’d Been Writing About for Years

You name it. I’d tried it all — from genome creams to dandelion oil, to DNA lasers, to snake serum, to ancient rituals and ultramodern devices.

I spoke to scientists, chemists, doctors, formulators and founders. I’d devoted my career to chasing the next scientific innovation in beauty. As a beauty editor, I wrote essays about the science of great skin. I conducted long-term experiments. I won awards. I was in perpetual pursuit of what actually worked. And yet, even after 15 years, I still wasn’t sure I’d found it.

So, I pivoted – heading back to university to study for a full time Bachelor of Sciences degree in Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture. There, I was thrust into sophisticated system of medicine that is TCM, but Western biology in tandem, too, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology. How nature works – and how the body works, from two distinct vantage points. It cracked my brain open and rebuilt it with a new world view; one with a deep reverence for nature and balance; ostensibly “soft” totems that you’d assume have no place in modern science.

I’d had eschewed nature in my writing, too – favouring the far more jazzy and sophisticated ‘science,’ in terms of ingredient innovation. As beauty editors, we viewed natural extracts and formulas were as weak, ineffective, unexciting. It’s apt then, that during my studies that I discovered the world of biotechnology: a movement which turns this power dynamic on its head. Biotech is the perfect replication of nature molecules and compounds through science.

Science is saying ‘nature had it right all along.’ There’s poetry in that. And, performance, too. Biotechnology provides us with a solution for the very real problem of ingredient harvesting from nature – one which is solely responsible for destroying vast swathes of land across the globe – but it also up-levels performance to levels hitherto unseen. How? Well, it makes itself our skin’s best friend by becoming like the skin itself. Biotech ingredients have incredibly high levels of bio-compatibility because their molecular structure

In TCM, this is called ‘resonance’, the interplay of natural systems with one another that creates a sort of rhythm or harmony. This is the science of tomorrow: one which is soft, intelligent, natural, and completely transcendant for the future of our skin.

I didn’t set out to start a skincare brand – but when I discovered this bold new world, I couldn’t not. Our REOME formulas are easily the most visibly transformative I’ve ever tried. Within three months of using the lab sample of what would become Active Recovery Broth, I knew this was the skincare revolution that I’d spent all those years searching for. My skin, once reddened, hyper-oily, but also oddly dehydrated became the skin I’d spent years writing about: radiant, even, resilient, gloriously predictable, and well, happy. And I’m endlessly proud to say, it’ll do the same for yours, too.
