MECCA Collectiva is our inspiring set of tastemakers from around the globe. From skincare routines to makeup edits, browse their MECCA curations.

For Australian model, yoga teacher and mum of two, Lou Kenny, 2022 has a distinctly different feel from the past two years; she describes a sense of lightness and renewal that has given her a fresh attitude and cemented her love of spontaneity – be it on or off her beloved yoga mat.

Here, ahead of Mother’s Day, Kenny gives us an insight into her life on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula and how she keeps the rhythm relaxed despite channelling all her energy (and patience) into training a rambunctious new family member.

I believe swimming in the ocean and inverting (headstands and shoulder stands) are just as important for glowing skin.

A complexion connection

“I love serums and skincare with active ingredients. But I believe swimming in the ocean and inverting (headstands and shoulder stands) are just as important for glowing skin.”

“Yoga influences me enormously as the practice increases oxygen into the blood, which in turn heals the body. It also influences the senses; the sense of smell, sight, sound, taste and breath are heightened, therefore you’re sharp and relaxed.”

On her mother’s day list…

“For Mother’s Day I’d love a gift card from MECCA so I can play and pick on my own. I’d probably choose skincare and a skin repair device – there are so many cool tools out there these days!”

On her signature style - and keeping it natural

“I’d describe my style as a combination of grace, confidence and individuality. Overall, less is more and great shoes are a must."

“I have a bunch of unique classics – men’s shirts and trousers – to juxtapose with combat boots and oversized denim jackets. I equally love a flippy cocktail dress!"

“My beauty style is always as natural as can be, along with bit of contour, blush, eyebrow definition and just a hint of mascara. And for the last 20 years I finally stopped putting my face in the sun.”

Plans and…puppies!

“I’m currently working on training my blue heeler pup, Remy, which in turn has developed my patience and opened my heart in ways I’d forgotten about – that unconditional love only a pet can give you."

“London and LA are on the cards later this year for work – which will be weeks not months or I’ll miss my puppy too much! Packing always includes a sarong, [swimming] togs, a cashmere scarf and great pair of supported trainers as many kilometres on foot is a given.”

“I’m reading anything Ayuol Manyok recommends. She visited recently and left me with The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois and Beloved by Toni Morrison. In return I lent her Tell Me Why: The Story of My Life and My Music by Archie Roach – she loved it and now catches Archie whenever she can.

“I’m watching Bluey now I have a heeler!

“On rotation: The Murlocs, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (my son Ambrose is in these two bands), plus Fats Domino, My Morning Jacket, Lost Ragas, Sampa The Great, Archie Roach and always Alabama Shakes.

“Any and all oyster variations are on the menu (Japanese baked oysters are a family favourite). I buy plantains by the box so I can introduce them to my yoga students – Jamaican curries are the best!”
