The good news? You don’t need to overhaul your regimen or spend a fortune. The secret is a consistent, considered bridal skincare routine tailored to your timeline and budget.
“Consistency is far more important than chasing quick fixes,” explains Dr Cara McDonald, a highly trained specialist dermatologist based in Melbourne. “Healthy, glowing skin is usually the result of small improvements that build over time.”
Read on for a dermatologist-approved guide to wedding-ready skin, complete with expert advice on the skincare products and in-clinic treatments that are worth investing in for the biggest payoff.
This is the perfect time to start taking your skin prep seriously. “Starting well in advance allows you to spread treatments out gradually rather than trying to rush everything in,” says Dr McDonald.
If there’s room in the wedding budget for professional treatments, now’s the time to consult an experienced professional (like our MECCA Aesthetica experts!) to help you map out your skin goals. “Getting the right advice and treating the correct problem is often much better value than spending money on products or treatments that aren’t suited to your skin,” Dr McDonald adds.
Away from the clinic, the dermatologist advises taking a simple approach: “Start with the basics and don’t overdo it. More is not always more. Try not to introduce more than one new product at a time, so you can be sure of what’s going on if you experience any problems.”
Alongside your usual cleanser and day cream, you could try adding an antioxidant serum in the morning (we love Emma Lewisham Skin Reset Serum) followed by a daily sunscreen like MECCA COSMETICA TO SAVE FACE SPF50+ Superscreen. At night, a gentle cleanser – something calming, like KORRES Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser – and a nourishing do-it-all moisturiser like Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream. If you’re able to stretch the budget, a retinoid like Fig.1 Retinol Night Cream can really level up your routine.*
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE. Sunscreen is only one form of sun protection. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and reapply as directed.
*Retinol products are not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding individuals. Always check with your doctor before using any new products while pregnant or breastfeeding.

It’s time to get clinical! “Many treatments work best when performed as a series, often every 4 to 6 weeks,” reveals Dr McDonald, adding that these should begin at least six months before the big day. “If acne, redness or pigmentation are being treated properly, there is also enough time to see significant improvement before the wedding.”
If you’re treating pigmentation or sun damage, pigment lasers, IPL or prescription skincare may be on the agenda. For redness, Dr McDonald recommends vascular lasers as worth the splurge; for fine lines, she turns to fractional lasers or collagen-stimulating procedures.
If you have deeper lines that won’t budge, consider an Advanced Cosmetic Consultation at MECCA Aesthetica – a private session with a Registered Nurse to assess your suitability for non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
Lastly, if you’re working with dullness or dehydration, Dr McDonald recommends gentle chemical peels, hydrating treatments or skin needling like MECCA Aesthetica’s Meso Skin Needling.
By the six-month countdown, you’ve nailed a consistent skincare routine – so build on those foundations. If the budget allows, consider layering in another serum: “Add ingredients like niacinamide for redness or uneven skin tone, peptides for collagen stimulation and glow, or hyaluronic acid for hydration.”
